But these rules, called <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"quantum mechanics (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quantum_mechanics\" target=\"_blank\">quantum mechanics<\/a>, contain one particularly bizarre, unexplained phenomenon: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quantum_entanglement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"quantum entanglement (opens in a new tab)\">quantum entanglement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine two subatomic particles that mirror changes in each other instantaneously over any distance \u2013 apparently without communicating. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albert_Einstein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Einstein (opens in a new tab)\">Einstein<\/a> called it \u201cspooky action at a distance\u201d and although no one can explain how it works, scientists have already begun to harness its power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So-called quantum computing could give rise to computers that can shatter existing data encryption in minutes \u2013 and use the laws of physics to create a totally secure, unhackable network.
