The child however, believes the answer is 22. So do his parents. How dare this teacher censor their child and restrict his learning. What kind of professional does this? The child\u2019s parents are out for blood and soon our heroine is trapped in a vicious media onslaught and a school board demanding her resignation.<\/p>\n<p>What makes this film so special is that it functions on so many layers. It works comically due to it\u2019s wonderfully executed reducto-absurdum, but just a little bit deeper we find an allegory for our modern world carrying a concerning warning. What happens when beliefs are taken too such a degree that basic knowledge is questioned? What happens to a population when the right to free speech becomes more important than the recognition of fact? There is a frightening undertone in ALTERNATIVE MATH that speaks to a greater and more terrible world lurking in a reality not too far away from our own.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this allegory is one that comes gift-wrapped clearly and politely in the bow comedy for an audience can unwrap it with glee, not fear. Perhaps this is one of the best reasons to see ALTERNATIVE MATH, a film with heart, humanity and humor, as well as deeper philosophical undertones. A family film to be enjoyed by teacher and student alike.\u00a0<div id=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o-link-15131\" class=\"sh-link Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o-link sh-hide\"><a href=\"#\" onclick=\"showhide_toggle('Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o', 15131, 'Mostrar tradu\u00e7\u00e3o', 'Ocultar tradu\u00e7\u00e3o'); return false;\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><span id=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o-toggle-15131\">Mostrar tradu\u00e7\u00e3o<\/span><\/a><\/div><div id=\"Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o-content-15131\" class=\"sh-content Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o-content sh-hide\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Talvez uma das curtas mais inteligentes e interessantes por a\u00ed, ALTERNATIVE MATH, uma pe\u00e7a norte-americana de nove minutos, dirigida por David Maddox, \u00e9 uma pe\u00e7a de com\u00e9dia inteligente profundamente elaborada e incrivelmente sofisticada.<\/p>\n<p>A nossa hero\u00edna \u00e9 uma professora veterana do ensino prim\u00e1rio tentando explicar a um seu aluno que 2 + 2 = 4. A crian\u00e7a, no entanto, acredita que a resposta \u00e9 22. O mesmo pensa os seus pais. Como ousa esta professora censurar o seu filho e restringir a sua aprendizagem? Que tipo de profissional faz isso? Os pais da crian\u00e7a est\u00e3o sem sangue e em breve a nossa hero\u00edna est\u00e1 presa num violento massacre da comunica\u00e7\u00e3o social e com uma dire\u00e7\u00e3o exigindo a sua ren\u00fancia.<\/p>\n<p>O que torna este filme t\u00e3o especial \u00e9 que ele funciona em muitos n\u00edveis. Ele funciona comicamente devido \u00e0 redu\u00e7\u00e3o ao absurdo maravilhosamente executada, mas um pouquinho mais profundo encontramos uma alegoria para o nosso mundo moderno carregando um alerta preocupante. O que acontece quando as cren\u00e7as s\u00e3o tomadas de tal forma que o conhecimento b\u00e1sico \u00e9 questionado? O que acontece com uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o quando o direito \u00e0 liberdade de express\u00e3o se torna mais importante do que o reconhecimento do facto? H\u00e1 um tom assustador na MATEM\u00c1TICA ALTERNATIVA que fala sobre um mundo maior e mais terr\u00edvel, espreitando uma realidade n\u00e3o muito distante da nossa.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9 claro que essa alegoria \u00e9 envolvida de maneira clara e educada na com\u00e9dia de rever\u00eancia para que o p\u00fablico possa desembrulh\u00e1-la com alegria, n\u00e3o com medo. Talvez esta seja uma das melhores raz\u00f5es para ver MATEM\u00c1TICA ALTERNATIVA, um filme com cora\u00e7\u00e3o, humanidade e humor, bem como com profundas indica\u00e7\u00f5es filos\u00f3ficas.
